Sam Austin was born on June 14th, 1981, in Portland Oregon, A room of anxiously awaiting friends, doctors, and a thoroughly tired couple all gathered to take eye of this new addition to the world. Thirteen hours later (an hour for each pound of birthweight mind you) a big bouncing bounty of "HELLO YOU!!!" , was born. A hushed room watched in anticipation as little baby Samuel opened his eyes quietly , and took in the glory of this brand new place full of wonder and light. His little hands tensing with the energy of new life flowing freely through them. His short legs kicking away with vigor and strength , his little heart letting out it's first ba - bump ba - bumps in this big new space. His cute little mind screaming "Somebody find me the Curtis Mayfield records and whoever's in charge of the food and booze in this QUOTE UNUOTE ESTABLISHMENT!!!" A beautiful night, a poorly lit room, future hopes in dreams wafting away in the still frenzied air. A little hope... a little love... a lot of work. The markings of a life to be spent in the back of comedy haunts are present early.
Comedy started for Sam Austin like so many young children of this country... hiding away listening to Richard Pryor records. "Rich, Redd Foxx, Moms Mabley .... (snorts in recollection)... I remember breaking two separate copies of Delirious..... twice (smiling).... just wore out the tape" , Sam recounts of his early comedic roots. His comedic aspirations were furthered by the work of late great comedy powerhouse Patrice O'Neal. "He gave a story that was his own, his insight, his vision of the world around him...... just a pure raw kind of open rawness and honesty" Sam recalls of his favorite comedy hero. "Love him or hate him.... he was HIM" Sam states to finish. It was with this spirit of which Sam spun out his first comedic exercise. The ill fated podcast "Late Nite with Jacob and the Fat Man." "My co-host walked mid-show, my favorite cousin was remember this moment forever kind of drunk, and the color commentary gal was better looking than she was engaging or entertaining." "People were pissed... screams of screw Sam Austin were head high and loud.... but some real bright people came to me like dude that was incredible, what's next?" It wasn't more than a few months time before the call of the stage took him to stand up. "It was an open mic... I killed... and we pretty much been at it since."
